Some of you may have noticed a slightly touched up version of FreeCharge that quietly went live earlier this week. The purpose of this release wasn’t necessarily to give the web app an aesthetic facelift, but rather to subtly attack some basic experience issues on the front-end while pushing out a ton of changes under the hood that will help us scale much faster in the future. Here’s a quick summary:
1. Popular Plans – we are now beginning to aggregate the best available talktime plans available online by operator, by geographical circle. Data aggregation in an unorganized market is never an easy task, and we cannot promise 100% data sanctity here, but over time, we feel very good about presenting FreeChargers with some of the best available talktime plans for them, especially full talktime plans.
2. Sign-in/Sign-up – we got rid of the clunky intermediate page that asked customers to sign in or sign up with us and brought that experience to a lightbox. Once the lightbox is invoked, the sign-in and sign-up forms are now separated vs. showing them side by side the way we used to. This helps the user clearly define their focal objective for us vs distracting them with two.
3. Friendlier Payments Module – the payments module now fully supports seamless payments across debit and credit cards, and we’ve cleaned up the experience to evoke more trust. Of course there is nothing more paramout to us than protecting our customer’s private and sensitive information, and we wanted you to know that.
I won’t go into the under-the-hood changes, b/c frankly, that’s all secret sauce 😉
